Speeding Driver Causes Accident, Dies in Emeryville

Looking south above Interstate 80, the Eastsho...

A speeding driver who lost control of his car on Highway 80 near Emeryville last night died in an accident apparently caused by his recklessness. The driver made a dangerous and sudden lane change, clipping another car. He then lost control of his car and came to a stop facing oncoming traffic. A large truck smashed into the backwards-facing car, killing the driver of that car. Other cars then piled up behind the truck.

It drives me crazy when I see people making dangerous turns/lane changes. I don't know the number, but these probably account for a pretty significant number of accidents out there, if not the majority of them.

While my heart goes out to the driver who caused this accident, and was killed in it, I have to point out the stupidity of driving fast and recklessly. You hardly ever save much time by driving really fast; you put yourself and your passengers at risk; you put other drivers at risk.

The best way to get somewhere on time? Leave a little earlier and anticipate traffic so you don't have to speed to get where you are going. I can't tell you the number of times I have been in court and someone tells the judge they are late because of traffic. In almost every instance, the judge reminds them that everyone else had to deal with traffic too, and they made it there on time.

If you have been injured by a speeding, drunk or reckless driver, you should have an attorney.
