Hayward Pedestrian Struck by Car, Seriously Injured

A 55 year-old pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing Mission Boulevard in Hayward on Monday morning. According to KTVU, the woman was crossing from the northwest side of Mission to the southeast side, at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Lewelling Boulevard in Hayward.

The pedestrian was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

I have written many times about the obligations of pedestrians and drivers in this type of scenario. Drivers must make sure there is no pedestrian who they might hit, and must not speed. Pedestrians must pay attention to cars and make sure they do no get in the way of a car.

Drivers are held to a higher standard than pedestrians, but both are obligated to maintain a lookout.
